Every vote matters! How to get voters to care.

I just read an interesting article in Flagler Live!,  "Lazy, Cheap, Irresponsible Palm Coast", about Flagler's election results.  The author, Pierre Tristam expresses his deep frustration with the dismal turnout we had in this year's general election.  Many of us are frustrated. We live in a county of about 95,000 people and 50,059 registered voters and Only 5,816 people voted.  That is Only 11.6% of registered voters.  That means 1 out of every 9 registered voters bothered to vote.  Were you that one?

If you're reading this, you probably were that one.  It is natural to feel frustrated or even angry that so many people didn't take the time to fill in two circles on a ballot.  But that won't help encourage more people to vote. So what can we do to ensure that this type of turnout never happens in our county again?

Woman for Obama Campaign with Debbie Wasserman Schultz

November 17th marked the launch of the Women for Obama Campaign.  The meeting was held at the Hollingsworth Gallery in Palm Coast, for Democratic Women who are interested in volunteering, helping voters, and  re-electing President Barack Obama here in Flagler County. Over twenty-three Flagler county women attended.

The Highlight of the meeting was joining several other Florida Democratic Party meetings for a statewide conference call. The speaker for the  Conference Call was Congresswoman and Democratic National Committee Chair - Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Today is Bank Transfer Day

From the official Bank Transfer Day facebook page:

Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will always remember the 5th of November. If we shift our funds from the for-profit banking institutions in favor of not-for-profit credit unions before this date, we will send a clear message that conscious consumers won't support companies with unethical business practices. It's time to invest in local community growth!

• Research your local credit union options
• Open an account with the one that best suits your needs
• Cancel all automatic withdrawals & deposits
• Transfer your funds to the new account
• Follow your bank's procedures to close your account before 11/05

"Awake the State!"

On November 1, 2011 Floridians rallied in 15 cities throughout the State to fight Rick Scott's anti-middle class agenda.
Flagler County's rally was held on the corner of Belle Terre and Palm Coast Parkway. The event lasted for two hours, and was well attended. A group of about 50 people expressed a variety of  concerns as to the direction of our state.
There were Teachers, Retiree's, Union Supporters, and Working People. I can say that most of the passing traffic was sympathetic to the cause. This is why we must continue to make sure we are heard and seen, maybe next time there's a rally more people will stand up.  PLEASE VOTE!!!!

Bank Transfer Day - Move Your Money

Bank Transfer Day is Saturday, November 5th.
We bailed out the Big Banks and in return they put America into foreclosure! Now the very banks that the American people bailed out won't even give loans to small business. It has become increasingly difficult to obtain a home loan, car loan or a student loan.
This is your chance to change a system where banks bet on the stock market with OUR money we entrust them to hold for US. It is your chance to end notion that these banks are "too big to fail."
It's your chance to shrink them down to size!
