Why did 100% of all Republicans in the US Senate vote against The American Jobs Act? This bill would create around 1.9 million jobs and raise the GDP by two points. It is also fully paid for by increasing the tax rate on the top 1%. If 66% of Americans believe we should increase the taxes on the top 1%, why is there so much deadlock in Congress?
Would you believe it is because of one man, this man, Grover Norquist?
As President of
Americans for Tax Reform (a tax advocacy group), Norquist created a pledge that says the signer will not raise taxes for ANY reason. He applies pressure for them to sign and then continues to apply pressure to make sure they don't go back on the pledge. 41 out of 47 Republican Senators and 236 out of 242 Republican House Representatives have signed this pledge. Many Republican Governors including Gov. Rick Scott, Gov. Scott Walker and Gov.Rick Perry also signed this and the list goes on and on to the state legislator level.
It is time that
We the People take Our country back from the obstructionists who have no desire to honor the will of the people but instead cater to the will of Grover Norquist.
